Title

Potential Climate Change Threats to Underwater Cultural Heritage

Description

Climate change is our greatest challenge. The paper is looking for the impact on underwater cultural heritage
(UCH), deep oceans, and coastal zone through literature reference and case studies. It will discuss the causes of
climate change, the results, with a focus on the sea surface temperature (SST) changes in the Mediterranean Basin
and the Pacific. SST will be calculated using Landsat 8 which is equipped by two bands of thermal infrared sensor
(TIRS). It is suitable for coastal zone monitoring due to its high resolution. The study depends on the use of
Landsat 7 which carried the Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) sensor. Both images are interpreted and
analyzed on the QGIS to calculate the radiance and reflectance of each image to conclude the value of SST. The
paper will finish by presenting the cycle factors which threaten the UCH and summarize the relationship between
the change of climate and the UCH and how they help researchers understand climate in the past and the
adaptation by humans in past.
